The Confession
Scene — Larry's HouseLarry stands motionless in the middle of the room. His face is a mix of disbelief, anger, and a fear that is only beginning to surface. His eyes move between Cameron's mother and his sister Tamara, searching for an explanation neither of them seems ready to give.
Tamara shifts on her feet, trying to hold her composure.
TAMARA: Brooke is fine, Larry. She's safe. There's no need to—
Her voice wavers halfway through the sentence. Cameron's mother notices it instantly — the crack in Tamara's confidence, the sense that she knows more than she's saying.
Cameron's mother steps closer to Larry, her voice steady and firm.
CAMERON'S MOTHER: Larry, this is not about college anymore. Your daughter was so afraid that she felt she had to disappear.
Something in Larry's face breaks. The anger drains out of him, replaced by something rawer — fear.
LARRY: Where is Brooke right now?
Nobody Answers
Silence. Everyone looks at each other. Tamara lowers her eyes to the floor.
Cameron's father notices her reaction.
CAMERON'S FATHER: Tamara… what are you hiding?
Tamara says nothing. Larry's breathing grows heavier. He takes a step forward, his voice cracking with urgency.
LARRY: I asked you where my daughter is!
Still, nobody answers. The room feels smaller with every second that passes.
Finally, Cameron's mother looks directly at Larry and speaks quietly.
CAMERON'S MOTHER: She was at our house… but something happened.
Larry freezes.
LARRY: What happened?
Before she can answer, a sound cuts through the tension — a car door slamming somewhere outside. Every head turns toward the front door. The room goes completely silent.
LARRY: Is that Brooke?
No one moves. The air feels frozen, all eyes fixed on the door.
At Cameron's House
Scene — Cameron's HouseMeanwhile, Brooke stands near the front door, travel bag in hand, tears still streaming down her face. She is seconds from leaving. Cameron stands several feet behind her, desperate, unsure how to stop her.
Suddenly, Brooke hears something outside. She slowly turns toward the door, her expression shifting from sadness to something sharper — fear.
Cameron notices the change in her immediately.
CAMERON: Brooke… what is it?
Brooke says nothing. Her hand reaches slowly for the door handle.
Two Doors, One Moment
At Larry's house, his voice rings out, low and resolute.
LARRY: I'm going to find my daughter.
Cut back to Brooke. Her fingers tighten around the handle. The door begins to open.
Larry has finally learned where Brooke has been hiding — but whether he's already on his way to her, and whether Cameron will find the courage to stand up for Brooke before it's too late, is left hanging in the dark.
