1. Brooke Finally Reaches Her Breaking Point
The living room was unusually quiet, but Brooke could still feel the tension hanging in the air. She stood in the far corner of the room, keeping her back turned toward everyone as she held her phone tightly against her ear.
Her voice was barely above a whisper. “Lynette, I don't know how much longer I can stay here. I just need somewhere to go.”
Brooke's eyes filled with tears as she tried to control her breathing. She had spent so long pretending everything was fine, but now the constant arguments, criticism, and pressure inside the house had finally become too much.
“I don't want to cause another problem,” Brooke continued. “I just need somebody to help me.”
2. Lynette Hears the Fear in Her Voice
On the other end of the call, Lynette immediately noticed that Brooke sounded different. This wasn't a casual conversation. Brooke sounded exhausted, frightened, and emotionally defeated.
“Brooke, what's happening?” Lynette asked.
Brooke wiped a tear from her cheek and looked toward the hallway. “Everything is happening. I can't breathe in this house anymore. Every time I say something, it turns into an argument. I feel like nobody is listening to me.”
Lynette remained quiet for a moment before responding. “If you need somewhere to stay, you can come here. You don't have to figure everything out tonight.”
Those words nearly broke Brooke. She covered her mouth as tears rolled down her face.
“Are you serious?” Brooke whispered.
“I'm serious,” Lynette answered. “Just tell me when you're ready.”
3. Bethany Notices the Secret Call
Brooke thought she had managed to keep the conversation private, but she was wrong.
Across the room, Bethany had been watching her.
At first, Bethany simply stared. Then her expression changed. Her eyes narrowed as she watched Brooke turn away and lower her voice.
“Who are you talking to?” Bethany suddenly demanded.
Brooke froze.
She slowly lowered the phone from her ear but didn't hang up.
“Nobody,” Brooke said nervously.
Bethany immediately became angry. “Nobody? Then why are you hiding in the corner whispering on the phone?”
Brooke's heart began racing. Lynette was still listening on the other end.
4. Brooke Refuses to Explain Herself
“I just needed someone to talk to,” Brooke said, trying to keep her voice calm.
Bethany stepped closer. “Someone to talk to? You have people in this house. Why do you need to call somebody outside this family?”
Brooke stared at her through watery eyes.
“Because I don't feel safe talking to people here,” she finally said.
The room suddenly became silent.
Bethany's face hardened.
“What exactly is that supposed to mean?” she asked.
Brooke didn't answer. She simply looked down at her phone.
That silence made Bethany even more suspicious.
“You're planning something, aren't you?” Bethany demanded.
5. Larry Watches Without Intervening
Larry stood only a few feet away, listening to the confrontation.
He could see Brooke's trembling hands. He could see the tears in her eyes. And he knew she wasn't trying to start another argument.
But Larry remained silent.
Bethany turned toward him. “Larry, are you hearing this?”
Larry swallowed hard. “Yeah. I'm hearing it.”
“Then say something!” Bethany snapped.
Larry looked at Brooke, then at Bethany.
For several seconds, he said nothing.
Brooke's expression changed when she realized he wasn't going to defend her.
She quietly whispered into the phone, “Lynette, please stay on the line.”
Lynette immediately replied, “I'm here.”
6. Brooke Makes a Decision
Bethany continued questioning Brooke, demanding to know where she planned to go and who she was talking to.
But something inside Brooke had changed.
For the first time, she wasn't trying to convince Bethany to understand her. She wasn't trying to make Larry choose a side.
She had already made a decision.
“I can't do this anymore,” Brooke said quietly.
Bethany stared at her. “Do what?”
“Stay here and keep pretending I'm okay.”
Brooke wiped her tears and walked toward the hallway.
Bethany immediately followed. “Where are you going?”
Brooke stopped but didn't turn around.
“Somewhere I can breathe.”
7. The Call That Changed Everything
Brooke returned to her room and quickly began gathering a few belongings. Her hands were shaking, but her mind was clearer than it had been in days.
She put her phone on speaker.
“Lynette, I think I'm ready,” Brooke said.
There was a brief silence.
Then Lynette answered, “Okay. I'll come get you.”
Brooke looked toward the bedroom door.
Outside, she could hear Bethany talking angrily to Larry.
Larry still hadn't said much.
Brooke picked up her bag and took one final look around the room. She knew leaving wouldn't solve everything, but staying felt impossible.
Then, just as Brooke reached for the door, her phone suddenly buzzed.
She looked down at the screen.
It wasn't Lynette.
It was an unknown number.
Brooke hesitated before opening the message.
The message contained only one sentence:
“Don't leave with Lynette. You need to know what Larry has been hiding from you first.”
Brooke's face went completely pale.
She slowly looked toward the hallway where Larry was standing.
For the first time that night, Larry looked directly at her.
And judging by the expression on his face, Brooke suddenly realized that he knew exactly who had sent the message.
