1. Alone With Her Thoughts
Shayla sat alone on a large modern sofa, surrounded by a quiet room that suddenly felt much bigger than it really was. The lights were soft, the television was off, and there was no conversation to distract her from the thoughts racing through her mind. For the first time in days, Shayla had no argument to win, no explanation to give, and nobody standing in front of her demanding answers.
She simply sat there, exhausted and emotionally drained, holding her smartphone tightly in both hands. Her shoulders were slightly lowered, and her fingers remained tense around the phone as if letting go of it would somehow make the memories disappear.

She placed the phone against her chest and closed her eyes. A final tear rolled down her cheek.
