Libby's Unexpected Return
A dramatic story of hope, surprise, and an unexpected encounter
Libby had been away from Cadrick's life for quite some time. She had spent many days thinking about the past, wondering what Cadrick really felt about her and whether there was still a place for her in his life. Although she tried to move forward, memories of their time together kept returning to her.
One day, Libby happened to have a conversation with Terry. During their talk, Cadrick's name came up, and something inside Libby suddenly changed. Old emotions returned all at once. Instead of staying away, she decided that she would go and see Cadrick herself.
Libby did not call Cadrick or tell him that she was coming. She wanted the meeting to be a complete surprise. In her mind, she imagined Cadrick opening the door, seeing her, and immediately forgetting every difficult moment between them.
When she reached Cadrick's house, she discovered that he was not home yet. Instead of leaving, Libby decided to wait. She quietly entered through the back door and settled herself inside the living room.
She sat comfortably on the sofa, looking around the familiar room. Her heart was beating faster with every passing minute. She kept imagining Cadrick's reaction and smiled to herself.
While waiting, Libby's imagination took over. She pictured Cadrick walking through the front door and suddenly freezing in disbelief. Then, she imagined his face changing from shock to happiness as he rushed toward her.
She imagined him asking where she had been, telling her how much he had missed her, and perhaps even giving her a warm hug. To Libby, this was not simply an unexpected visit. It felt like the beginning of a second chance.
After what felt like a long wait, Libby heard the sound of a vehicle outside. Her heart immediately began to race.
“Cadrick is home,” she whispered.
A few moments later, Cadrick reached the front door. He unlocked it and stepped inside, completely unaware that Libby was waiting for him in the living room.
At first, he moved normally, thinking about his day and expecting an ordinary evening. But the moment he looked ahead and saw someone sitting on the sofa, his entire body seemed to freeze.
Cadrick's eyes widened. He stood in the doorway, staring at Libby as though he could not believe what he was seeing.
For several seconds, neither of them said anything.
Finally, Cadrick quietly said, “Libby?”
Libby immediately smiled. She interpreted his stunned expression as happiness and disbelief. She thought he was simply overwhelmed because he had never expected to see her again.
But inside Cadrick's mind, completely different thoughts were racing.
Cadrick remained near the doorway, looking worried and confused. He was trying to understand how Libby had managed to enter his home without telling him. More than anything, he was wondering what she wanted and how long she planned to stay.
Libby, however, saw the situation differently. She believed Cadrick's silence meant that he was struggling to process how happy he was to see her.
She slowly stood up from the sofa and took a few steps toward him.
Cadrick did not move. There was no smile on his face. Instead, his expression became even more serious.
Libby's smile slowly disappeared. For the first time, she began to notice that Cadrick's reaction was not what she had imagined.
She looked directly into his eyes and asked, “What happened? Aren't you happy to see me?”
Cadrick took a deep breath. He had too many thoughts running through his head, but he knew that whatever he said next could change everything.
Libby had arrived with hopes, memories, and dreams of being welcomed back with love. Cadrick, on the other hand, was standing at the door wondering how he could handle an unexpected situation that he believed was finally behind him.
The silence between them became heavier.
Neither of them knew what the next few minutes would bring, but one thing was certain: Libby's surprise visit had reopened a chapter that Cadrick thought was already closed.
Libby had returned expecting love and excitement, while Cadrick was left standing at the door, stunned and worried. What happened next could decide whether their past would finally be buried—or become the beginning of an entirely new chapter.
